Oklahoma has the second highest occurrence of diabetes in the United States. For many people, receiving this diagnosis can cause questions, concerns and anxiety. To impact and inform citizens who have the disease, the JCMH Diabetes Center of Excellence was formed to provide education and training. A Registered Nurse and a Registered Dietitian host bi-monthly diabetes education classes for newly diagnosed diabetic patients and patients who have diabetes and need education and lifestyle information.
The JCMH Diabetes Center of Excellence team works with healthcare professionals on current treatment options, clinical protocols and research data. They teach diabetic patients and family members how to manage the disease in order to live longer, healthier lives. They also work with insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, government agencies and other healthcare organizations on improving the care for those with diabetes.
