Destination 10 Meal Service
In 2000, the Food and Nutrition Services department
implemented the Destination 10 food program. Destination
10’s philosophy is to achieve a food quality level of 10
based on a scale of 1 to10 in the food that is served to
patients, employees and visitors.
One change was offering a Las Vegas Style salad bar with
fruit flowers, breakfast sandwiches, homemade rolls, and
plenty of eye appeal. For patients, the cafeteria made the
trays more attractive by turning labels to where patients
can read them, making every item organized and accessible,
and offering new recipes.

Patients have noticed. Before implementing the program, the
patient satisfaction ratings were at 57% for this
department. Now, the rankings are in the 90th percentile.
Five Star Meal Service
Another service the cafeteria offers is the Five Star
Meal Service to Women’s Center patients. This allows Women’s
Center patients to order from a menu with a variety of foods
and beverages at a time convenient for them. A guest tray is
also provided with this service. The menus are printed in
English and Spanish and placed in each Women’s Center room.
Some of the foods listed include pizza pockets, chicken
strips, egg rolls, fresh salads, fried shrimp and catfish.
There are even six different types of bread to choose from.
Hamburgers and french fries are also a common item. Meals
are available to order from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Ten department employees have completed a certification in
the Healthcare Culinary Academy in November 2003. They were
given training in cooking sauces, meats, vegetables and
other foods.
