The second annual Spirit of Survival Marathon took place
in Medicine Park and the Wichita Mountains Wildlife
Refuge last weekend. The two-day event began Saturday
morning with the Mount Scott 5K run. A pasta feast and a
luminary service was held Saturday evening.
Sunday morning was the big event with the Mountain
Marathon, the Marathon Relay, the Holy Half Marathon and
the Big rock 10K races. The Super Kid’s Marathon and 5K
Spirit Walk and Family Fun Run followed the timed
events. Altus Christian Academy participated in the
Super Kid’s Marathon and won the prize money for the
school with the highest participation. Two teams of
parents and faculty from Altus Christian Academy
competed in the Holy Half Marathon.
Over 1200 participants walked or ran in the different
events. Throughout both days, Medicine Park hosted an
art and music festival complete with a wagon camp and
food and drinks.
The Spirit of Survival Marathon benefits the three
